Some 3000 people gathered to protest the first night of the 2 days massive strike that it´s engulfing Chile. After 3 months of protests by the students, the CUT ( the main union conglomerate) called for a 2 days strike.

As the government denies the efect on the general population, thousands of people just didn´t showed to work on wednesday.
Some barricades where lighted in main intersections. 3 carabineros ( chilean police) received bullet wounds.

At night, people all over the country go to the streets an make a lot of noise by banging pans and pots. That´s called a "cacerolazo". It´s a traditional way for chileans to protest the goverment. It was really popular during the 17 year dictatorship Chile suffered during the 70s and the 80s.

In one of the pictures you can see one of the most popular opposition leaders; Camila Vallejo a Comunist militant and student leader. Her beauty and determination have paid of. The whole country , besides the extremely rich, seems to be behind this huge social movement.

London-based Libyans congregated in small groups outside their Embassy in Knightsbridge this afternoon to celebrate the news emerging from Libya that allegedly three of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's sons had been captured by freedom fighters loyal to the rebel Transitional National Council (TNC). The London embassy is now occupied by TNC diplomats since the British Government officially recognised their legitimacy several weeks ago and expelled the Gaddafi regime's ambassador and all his staff.

Little did they know at the time that only two had been captured, and later that day with the help of troops loyal to Colonel Gaddafi they would both escape their captors who had bizarrely only put the brothers under house arrest in their own villas.

The celebrants were joined by Felicity Prazak, the Australian-born artist and widow of Victor Prazak who died on December 22nd 1992 on board a Libyan Arab Airlines Boeing 727, flight number LN 1103 travelling from Benghazi to Tripoli when it was destroyed a Libyan Air Force MiG fighter jet over the desert.

After many years of being stonewalled by both the Libyan government and the British Embassy in Tripoli, Mrs. Prazak, on learning that she could sue the Libyan Air Force and the government under Islamic law took the extraordinary step of leaving her Battersea home and her two young sons and moved to Tripoli to work as a teacher there so she would be entitled to sue the apparent culprits. Unfortunately she ended up being semi-detained for two weeks in her hotel by Gaddafi's security forces and managed to find her way back home, no thanks to the British Embassy says Mrs. Prazak.

She has since been told that her husband's flight had been intentionally shot down by the Libyan Air Force. The plane, which was supposed to be leaving Libya according to her sources, had been packed with explosives and was intended to be blown up en route to its destination. On the day the Libyan aviation authorites had been cynically ordered to change the flight number to that of the Lockerbie Boeing Jumbo jet, flight 103, but had devloped a technical problem and had diverted to Tripoli. The Air Force dared not allow the plane to land in Tripoli because it would have blown up there, so instead they shot it down over the desert.

Mrs. Prazak says she is hopeful that the new Libyan government - when it is formed - will finally help her to get the justice she has pursued for many years.

A violent storm, with lots of lightning bolts, broke in Paris on the evening of Monday August 22, 2011.

NEPAL, Kathmandu: Sunil Babu Pant, one of the Constitution Assembly (CA) Member of Nepal, started a protest demonstration (dharna) program against the current situation of no progress in the constitution making process here in Hanumandhoka on Monday August 22, 2011. The demonstration will start at 5 p.m. every day and further grow accordingly.

According to Pant, “there has been no progress in the constitution making process from the past few months. The extension of the CA is irrelevant in such regards to "no work no pay" theme when no progress is happening and the CA member are splurging the salaries and perks with the people's tax paid money. People have waited for their constitution from the past three years when political parties are playing power games and power politics instead of finding a solution to the political deadlock. The limited political ideologies and selfish motives of the parties have been obstructing the constitution making process where people aspirations have been sidelines and underestimated. The CA’s main priority is to make a constitution and we are missing our priority towards finding a solution for the current situation of instability rather than creating more problems. Extensionmay be a temporary solution but it’s not the solution.”

“Until now, we have been practicing the autocratic pattern of following one man ruling which is so wrong in democracy. Every person has the right and will of freedom of expression and we all should struggle for our betterment."

Sunil Babu Pant is the same CA member who had declared not to take any salary for the extension period of the constitution making process with "no work, no pay" theme. It is on moral grounds that Pant requested the chairman of the Constitution Assembly Subash Nembang to rightfully reject his salary and wages after the extension period of May 28, 2011.

The annual Quds day march through central London, where marchers expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people.

A small protest by the English Defence League against the march was staged just off of Trafalgar Square. One EDL member was arrested and forcibly removed from the square by police officers.

Protests are uprising in Egypt due to the attack done by the Israeli Army on the Egyptian borders in Sinai killing 5 soldiers from the Egyptian Army.
The demonstrations are in front of the Israeli embassy in Cairo, demanding the Israeli ambassador to go out of Egypt.

One of the protestors -later they called him "Flagman"- his name is Ahmed Elshahaat climbed the building of the embassy (100+ meters) and replaced the Israeli flag with the Egyptian one.

An international football tournament is organized fot the homeless people in Paris from August 21 to August 28, 2011. At the Champ de Mars, in front of the Eiffel Tower, women and men of all ages fight for the victory.

The city council had urged people to gather in Market Street at 14:00 BST to join the 'Manchester moment' when 'I Love MCR' posters will be held up on August 21, 2011 in Manchester (United Kingdom).

Manchester City Council's city centre spokesperson, Councillor Pat Karney, said that a photograph would be taken of the crowds that gather in Market Street and sent to websites across the world.

He said: "The importance of it is that we want to send a message around the world that Manchester is back in business and all the destruction and all the damage - we have put it behind us."

A council spokesman said: "The campaign centres on the iconic 'I Love MCR' brand, which has become a symbol of the city's resilience since last week's disturbances.'

A Danish-Maltese joint venture - Dexa Wave Energy - is starting comprehensive tests in Maltese waters to establish the feasibility for investing in Wave to Energy converters in the Mediterranean.

It will investigate and establish what parameters will be needed to produce wave energy converters for the Mediterranean similar to those developed in Denmark by Dexa Wave APS.

"In a country where land is scarce, and where most of the water territory is often too deep for offshore wind farms, the obvious logical route is to evaluate, understand and achieve a pro-environment way to exploit the unlimited wave energy available due to the vast territorial waters Malta enjoys," the company said.

"If such a project materialises, it will blend well with other renewable energy projects planned by the goverment and will also help achieve targets set by the European Union. It will also be the first commercial wave energy farm in the Mediterranean, putting Malta on the renewable energy map and setting an example for other Mediterranean countries."
The company has already carried out preliminary tests which were good enough for the company to decide to make a further step by laying high tech, state of the art data collection equipment in the vicinity of Gozo.
The company aims at achieving long lasting, low impact, contaminants free wave energy converters each producing around 250KW/hour. The design shall be in the form of a barge, with visibility from land being negligible. Risk for marine life will be practically non existent.

On August 20, 2011, Old Spitalfields Market was the venue for Vans Downtown Showdown, an international skateboarding competition with a prize purse of 50,000 Euros. The three areas of the course were named with local history and geography in mind: Tower Bridge, Ripper's Alley, and Tavern. The competition was created by skateboarders for skateboarders, with teams competing on customised ramps. The event has been running for six years and has previously visited cities such as Torino and Hamburg.
